The tales reflect the customs and lifestyles of korean ancestors revealing their sorrow and joy; their courage and wit. These precious stories are meant to be enjoyed by foreign readers  wherever they live. This bilingual edition is a newly published series of 23 fun traditional tales picked from Changbi Children's library. (This is kongji and Patji).The translators worked hard to produce accessible , engaging translations of korean literature to be enjoyed by young readers worldwide. The books feature colorful, humorous illustrations throughtout that aim to further ignite imaginations about the old days in Korea. I hope this traditional korean folk tales - written in clear korean and plain English - strike a chord in the hearts of many readers.

영어한글 옛이야기 시리즈. 뜻깊은 옛이야기를 영어와 한글로 펴낸 이 시리즈는 어린이들에게 전래 동화를 읽는 재미와 더불어 영어를 배우는 보람도 줄 것이다. 재외 한국인 자녀, 국내 다문화 가정 어린이, 나아가 세계의 어린이들도 함께 읽을 수 있도록 기획되었다.

01 콩쥐 팥쥐

어린 나이에 어머니를 잃어 보살핌이 필요한 콩쥐를 위해 아버지는 새어머니를 데려왔습니다. 하지만 동생 팥쥐가 태어나자 새어머니는 콩쥐를 거들떠보지도 않았습니다. 나이를 먹을수록 콩쥐는 점점 더 예뻐지고 마음씨가 착해 보는 사람마다 칭찬을 했습니다. 팥쥐는 사납게 생긴 얼굴에 마음씨도 곱지 못했지요. 그러자 새어머니는 콩쥐를 더욱 미워했습니다. 그래서 힘든 일은 모조리 콩쥐에게 시켰습니다. 불쌍한 우리 콩쥐는 힘든 일들을 어떻게 이겨낼까요?
