The unique Korean line, which is referred to as "seon", is found in all genres of Korean traditional art. It is embedded in the minds of korean people and existed even before the creation of artworks. Seon is an integral part of the vocabulary expressing the innate "Korean-ness of our people.

The seon has always had an important place in the natural and human surroundings of the korean peoples: the slope of the hills, the rounded sleeves and skirts of the hanbok, tombs, thatched-roofs and tiled roofs and the mother's bosom. Seon was always an important element of the korean spirit and was applied as a formal vocabulary in artistic genres. The seon found in roofs is a good example.

**

This book examines the curvilinear roofline, which is commonly characterized as "Korean lines." Paying attention to the fact that the roof line is neither perfectly straight, nor fully curved, the book examines several layers of beauty the roof line unfolds - formal, natural, and social beauty - and relates its significance to the very roots of Oriental aesthetics that encompass Truth, Virtue, Beauty and Sublimity.
