G.Master Kang Shin-chul was dispatched as a government-sponsored instructor to Iran in 1985, at a time when Taekwondo was scarce in the country. Teaching the Iranian national sparring team, he noticed the lack of foundational skills among Taekwondo practitioners and began researching training methods to address this deficiency. He believed that the fundamental movements of Taekwondo should form the basis for improving the performance of sparring athletes. Thus, he systematized techniques and developed training programs. This innovation, known as "Geungi," transformed Iran into a powerhouse in both sparring and Poomsae in Taekwondo.

Furthermore, in 1988, G.Master Kang established the "Namchang Dojang" in Namchang-dong, Suwon, where he has been instructing students based on "Geungi" ever since. Since the 1990s, his disciples have achieved outstanding results, winning over 370 gold medals and 170 trophies in national, Asian, and world competitions. They have also enrolled in prestigious universities such as Kyung Hee University, Yongin University, Korea National Sport University, Gachon University, Keimyung University, Dankook University, and so on. Presently, his disciples are actively engaged as professors, doctors, instructors, national team coaches for Poomsae in both Korea and Iran, and as overseas seminar instructors.

The foundation of the excellent skills of Iranian national team athletes and the vibrant activities of Kang's disciples grown at Namchang Dojang is rooted in G.Master Kang Shin-chul's "Geungi"-based Taekwondo training. To learn this systematic training method of "Geungi," over 20,000 overseas Taekwondo practitioners, instructors, and athletes from 98 countries have visited. The "Korean Geungi Seminar" has reached its 8th year this year, offering long-term education annually for domestic Taekwondo instructors. Based on the philosophy that "cultivating the right people is everything in Taekwondo," G.Master Kang shares "Geungi" worldwide.

In line with his teaching philosophy, the "Geungi" textbook was compiled in Korean, English, and Chinese, dividing it into beginner and advanced levels. 'Geungi 1' was compiled by gathering 'Geungi' for beginner-level practitioners, encompassing basic principles and movements that should be taught to beginner students. It contains many photos of the training and seminar in order to provide assistance on the field teaching. QR codes were added so that videos can also be viewed. This book can serve as a valuable resource for beginner students to learn fundamental principles and basic movements and can also act as new educational content for instructors.

....Taekwondo techniques are broadly composed of Poomsae, Sparring, and Breaking. "Geungi," which systematically organizes the techniques from understanding basic elements to advanced applications and mastery, is created to signify the roots of Taekwondo skills. By systematically training from the most fundamental techniques to higher levels, practitioners can achieve a balanced Taekwondo training without leaning toward any particular aspect. Thus, the term "Geungi" is coined to represent the essence of Taekwondo techniques.

"Geungi" targets both Taekwondo practitioners and instructors. Through "Geungi," practitioners can enjoy learning Taekwondo step by step with structured education, while instructors can provide engaging classes using various teaching methods. Furthermore, by adopting various "Geungi" encompassing all aspects of Taekwondo as the foundation of training, it is possible to enhance the completeness of each technique.

강신철 사범은 ‘올바른 사람을 키워내는 도장이 태권도의 모든 것이다’라는 철학을 바탕으로 ‘근기’를 전 세계에 공유하고 있다. 그의 지도 철학을 실천하고자 한글, 영문, 중국어 3개국 언어로 ‘근기’ 교재를 편찬하게 되었다. ‘근기’는 유급자 편과 유단자 편으로 수준을 나누어 구성하였다. 유급자 대상으로 가르쳐야 하는 기초 원리와 동작들에 대한 근기들을 엮어 ‘근기 1’을 편찬하였다. 이 책은 유급자 수련생 과정에서 익혀야 할 가장 근본적인 원리와 기본 동작들을 보고 배울 수 있다.
